Freedom of Information
An Chomhairle Leabharlanna became a prescribed body under the Freedom of Information Act in 2000.
An Chomhairle is committed to conducting its business in as open and transparent a manner as possible. In keeping with this, we will attempt to make available information to the public outside the formal procedures of the Freedom of Information Act, if this is the preferred option of the person seeking information, subject to the general scope of exemptions in the Act.
Under the Freedom of Information Act, anyone is entitled to apply for access to information not otherwise publicly available. Each person has a right to:
- access to records held by An Chomhairle;
- correction of personal information relating to oneself held by An Chomhairle where it is inaccurate, incomplete or misleading;
- access to reasons for decisions made by An Chomhairle directly affecting oneself.
The following records come within the scope of the Act:
- all records relating to personal information held by An Chomhairle irrespective of when created;
- all other records created from the commencement of the Freedom of Information Act (21 April, 1988);
- any records necessary to the understanding of a current record even if created prior to 21 April, 1988.
