Euro-Focus

Euro-Focus on The Cultural Heritage was set up under its library co-operation remit by An Chomhairle Leabharlanna (The Library Council) which is the statutory body charged with library development under the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.  The Committee was established February 9th, 1989.

The Euro-Focus is chaired by Seán Phillips, Librarian, National University of Ireland, Dublin (sean.phillips@ucd.ie) and the secretariat is provided by An Chomhairle Leabharlanna headed by Annette Kelly, Assistant Director (akelly@librarycouncil.ie).   Its representative bodies include government departments and the main libraries, galleries, museums and archives in Ireland.

The aims of the Euro-Focus are:

  • To foster co-operation with the library, archive and museum sectors;
  • To liaise with the European Commission in relation to Cultural Heritage and Research funding initiatives;
  • To disseminate information to the cultural heritage sector.

The Euro-Focus has developed Ireland’s cultural portal, CultureNet.ie www.culturenet.ie

CultureNet

Culturenet.ie is a gateway to Irish cultural resources online - primarily the websites and online databases of both national and local cultural institutions such as libraries, museums, archives, galleries, performance art and theatre.

Culturenet.ie - which combines a single point of access to cultural information, with searching capability across all of the websites - provides a unique and valuable service, to both the national and international community. By providing access to these resources from a single point of access, CultureNet.ie simplifies the process of locating information about Ireland’s culture and heritage, for citizens, tourists, students, researchers and any other interested members of the community.
