The Creative Literacy through Innovation Project’s main objective was to raise literacy achievement for primary aged children through using new innovative ways and through the joined up approach & co-operation between the local library, schools and community.
Peterborough City Council Library Service was linked with the school completion project through County Waterford VEC, St. Mary’s National School, Scoil Gharbháin and Dungarvan Library. There were many visits from the UK to train teachers and volunteers in various projects which were already underway in Peterborough. Some of the projects included:
- Reading Buddies – an initiative based on volunteers reading with the school children.
- FÍS Book club – involved an online password protected website where children create and upload their own videoed book review based on their independent reading.
- Questers – an activity workshop held in Dungarvan Library to inspire reluctant readers with a fun approach to literacy.
