Lecture Series
In 2004 COLICO established a lecture series to debate issues of interest to the library and information services sector. The lectures are usually part of the programme of the Joint Conference of the Library Association of Ireland (LAI) and the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) which takes place annually in April.
COLICO Lecture 2011
Delineating the Public Space was the topic of the COLICO lecture for 2011 which was given by Dr. Marian Fitzgibbon, Head of the School of Humanities in Athlone Institute of Technology. Dr. Fitzgibbon has been a board member of the Dunamaise Arts Centre in Portlaoise and is currently the Taoiseach’s nominee on the board of the National Library.
The COLICO lecture 2011 took place on 14th April at the Library Association of Ireland/CILIP Ireland Annual Joint Conference in Bloomfield House Hotel, at Belvedere, just outside Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.
The library service, the arts service, education and local government all occupy the public space. Dr. Fitzgibbon explored how professionals in the public space must find ways of carrying out their roles and negotiating their environment in a manner that does not betray the ethos of public service. The presentation examined the topic and proposed some approaches to this dilemma.
