COLICO's activities
COLICO's activities
- Developing and supporting the Pathways to Learning Programme
- Promoting co-operative initiatives such as Newsplan and PAL Projects
- Monitoring the Irish Joint Fiction Reserve Scheme: this is a shared scheme agreed by library authorities with An Chomhairle Leabharlanna to retain in-print and out-of-print fiction for lending purposes to library users throughout the island of Ireland and further afield. This scheme was set up in 1965. There are 76,000 items currently in the collection. The reserve is held in library-repositories throughout the country with each participating library undertaking to store books by an author whose surname begins with an allocated letter. Guidelines about the IJFRS and the participating libraries are available here.
- Risk Assessment and Salvage Planning: COLICO's Guide provides general guidelines for librarians on formulating an emergency plan for their libraries including a directory of useful contacts.
Public Sector Co-operation on the island of Ireland: Public Libraries
A discussion paper on cross-border co-operation on the island of Ireland was compiled by Dr. Patricia Clarke, Research Manager, Centre for Cross Border Studies in 2008 and can be downloaded here
