COLICO Lecture 2009

The COLICO lecture for 2009 was given by Professor Alistair McCleery, Director, Scottish Centre for the Book. The Centre has been established since 1995 and acts as a focus for research and knowledge transfer in publishing, the material book and print culture. Professor McCleery and his team undertake a range of commissioned research on the social and economic aspects of the publishing industry and on the creative industries in general. The title of Professor McCleery’s presentation was Small Nation Publishing which focussed on the current state and future of book publishing in small predominantly English speaking nations, i.e. Ireland, Scotland and Canada, with particular reference to supporting the indigenous publishing industry in the face of globalisation of information providers and packagers.

The event took place at the LAI/CILIP conference on 30th April at 2.15 p.m. in the Hilton Hotel, Belfast. The lecture formed part of the programme of a joint conference between library staff and elected members of library authorities based on the island of Ireland, from 29th April – 1st May 2009.
