In partnership with library authorities, An Chomhairle co-ordinated the fourth READISCOVER reading promotion campaign in 2008. Funded by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, READISCOVER ran from 3rd to 9th March, during Library Ireland Week.
The READISCOVER posters featured comedian and writer Ardal O’Hanlon, television presenters Emma O’Driscoll and Soky, and Fergus Finlay, Chief Executive of Barnardos.
4,000 posters and 10,000 bookmarks were distributed to library and schools acorss the country.
READISCOVER 2008 once again featured a national bus advertising campaign.
Using the poster designs, the campaign featured twenty-three buses on a variety of routes in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Waterford, and on Bus Éireann inter-city routes.
A two-week radio advertising campaign with two specially commissioned scripts ran on fifty national and local radio stations. The advertisements were on the themes of ‘the power of words‘ and ‘a single lifetime‘.

In previous years the READISCOVER cotton bags proved very popular with library users, and in 2008 60,000 bags were produced, using a new READISCOVER design. The bags were distributed to all library authorities.
