The Centre for Cross Border Studies, founded in September 1999 and based in Armagh and Dublin, researches and develops co-operation across the Irish border in education, health, business, public administration, communications, agriculture, the environment and a range of other practical areas.
Mr. Pollak’s presentation took the theme of Key Factors Making for Good North/South Co-operation Practice in Ireland. The lecture was given at the Library Association of Ireland/CILIP Ireland annual joint conference, in April in Athlone, County Westmeath.
Focussing on the challenges to greater North-South co-operation, Mr. Pollack stressed that it was a question of:
how to persuade new people to think about doing the things they normally do on a one-jurisdiction basis on a cross-border basis … because it makes sense to do so, because it brings benefits to the people of both jurisdictions.
