3.3 Griffith’s Valuation

An Chomhairle commenced the development of an online version of Griffith’s Valuation, the primary genealogical source for 19th century Ireland,in 2007 and carried out further development in 2008.

In this phase the Valuation Maps were scanned and linked to the individual records with the co-operation of the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage and the Valuation Office.

The Valuation maps were then stitched together and overlaid onto Google maps, so that users can pan across the entire country and view the Valuation map overlaid on the present-day Google version, to observe changes over time.

Some gaps in the coverage of the Northern Ireland maps still exist and these are being addressed in co-operation with the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland.
