Capital Grants Programme
During 2008 grants totalling €14,186,357.57 were provided by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government for the development of library buildings.
This grant-aid was provided, as in previous years, under the Branching Out development programme. The grants paid to twenty-four library authorities in respect of thirty-two library buildings, and seven mobile and delivery vans are listed in table 2.
Subsidy
An Chomhairle pays subsidy at the rate of 50% on leasing charges incurred by library authorities on library buildings.
A total of €1,294,692.25 was paid to twelve library authorities, for eighteen buildings, in 2008. This money was recouped from the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
Library Programmes
The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government also provided the funding as set out in table 3 for public library programmes during 2008.
