The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government funds a scheme of grant aid to library authorities for the development and stocking of new and converted libraries and library headquarters, and for the provision of mobile libraries and delivery vans.
An Chomhairle Leabharlanna advises both the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and library authorities on library projects submitted for grant aid under this scheme.
In 2008 An Chomhairle considered nineteen projects from seventeen library authorities, as set out in table 1.
